Elmer L. Koster

STERLING – Elmer L. Koster, 94, of Sterling, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2015.

Elmer was born Dec. 13, 1920, in Sterling, the son of Rudolph and Marie (Morgenstern) Koster. He married Alvera S. Gantzert on May 22, 1943, in Tallahassee, Florida. She preceded in him death July 11, 2008. Elmer served as an Army sergeant in the European theatre during World War II. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sterling, and a lifelong farmer in the Sterling area.

Survivors include three daughters, Susan Waggoner of Durham, North Carolina, Linda Koster of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Sally (Bill) Clemens of Roscoe; two sons, Norman (Ann) Koster of Dixon, and David Koster of Sterling; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; his three brothers, Carl, Walter, and Ronald Koster; and a grandson.

The funeral will be at noon Sunday at Schilling Funeral Home in Sterling, with the Rev. Brandon Nelson, pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church, officiating. A celebration of Elmer’s life and lunch will follow the service at Woodlawn Arts Academy in Sterling.

A memorial has been established.
