Buona Beef offering lower calorie options

BERWYN – Got a taste for a beef sandwich but watching your weight?

Berwyn’s own, Buona Beef restaurants, is now offering several new diet friendly versions of classics on its menu. Customers now have the option to order their Italian beef with “skinny” bread, which knocks off 25 percent of the calories from carbs.

The original Italian beef, or any other sandwich, can easily be made into a skinny at no extra cost. The skinny option is available on both white and multigrain bread.

The naked combo features meat and sweet bell peppers without the bread. Also a majority of Buona’s menu items can also be made with gluten-free flatbread.

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the recommended daily caloric intake is 2,400-2,600 for moderately active adult men and 2,000 for moderately active adult women. Buona’s new fortified menu offers more than 15 items for under 700 calories each.

The Naked Combo Bowl has no bread but includes lean Italian beef, Italian sausage, sweet bell peppers, and cheese all stewing in a bowl of hot au jus. O one can opt for the Naked Beef Bowl without the Italian sausage.

Patrons also can substitute any bread or pizza crust with a gluten-free flatbread. Most of Buona’s hand-tossed salads can also be made gluten-free by removing certain ingredients.
