MANLIUS — Janet Elaine Sass, 78, of Manlius, formerly of Westmont, died at 4:15 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, 2015, at Edward Hospital in Naperville.
Born Aug. 18, 1936, in Oak Park to Erlan and Dorothy (Dow) Johnson, she married Edward George Sass July 23, 1955, Westmont. He died Feb. 6, 2014.
She graduated from Hinsdale High School in 1954 and attended nursing school in Hinsdale. She worked at Hinsdale Hospital for almost 40 years.
She was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Manlius and a former member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Westmont.
Surviving are two daughters, Wendy (Ingvaar) Fors of Aurora and Gail (Robert Hernandez) Coyle of Plainfield; three grandchildren, Melissa (Erik) Swierenga of Aurora, Joshua Coyle of Rockford and Krystina (Colson) Freehill of Rochelle; one great-granddaughter, Emalie Freehill of Rochelle; one brother, Richard (Marie) Johnson of Phoenix, Ariz.; and many loving nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Robert and Charles Johnson.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 1, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 202 S. Fourth St., Manlius, with Pastor Brenda Lovick officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at the church.
Another service will be at 7 p.m. Monday, March 2, at Bethel Lutheran Church, 36 N. Grant St., Westmont, with the Rev. Paul Pfotenhauer officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church.
The Grant-Johnson Funeral Home in Manlius is in charge of arrangements.
