Wright signs with Judson Univ.

Oregon High School senior Emy Wright made it official March 4 — she will be suiting up for Judson University, Elgin, come next basketball season.

Wright signed a letter of intent with the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Division II university surrounded by her parents and friends in a short ceremony at the Blackhawk Center.

“I think Emy will fit in well with our team,” said Kristy Cirone, Judson’s head coach. “Her skill set speaks for itself.”

Wright ended her career as the second leading all-time scorer in OHS girls’ history with 1,149 total points.

She helped lead the Lady Hawks to a regional title and a school record 23-win season during her junior year.

She averaged 25.9 points per game and scored more than 40 points in a game twice during her senior season which ended in December with a knee injury.

Despite the injury, Wright was still selected as a first team Big Northern All-Conference team member for the second consecutive year.

“We’re so proud and excited for Emy to be signing with Judson,” said Oregon varsity coach Kristy Eckardt. “We are so happy that she will be able to continue playing basketball, especially considering all the hardships she’s had to go through her senior season.

“She will forever be remembered as one of the greatest players to graduate from Oregon, and it will be wonderful to get to see her play once again next winter and showcase her amazing talents at the college level,” said Eckardt.

Cirone said she is excited to have such a prolific scorer in Wright.

“We run a motion offense so everyone can create out of it so I see her in a variety of positions,” said Cirone. “I am excited.”

Judson University is an NAIA member and belongs to the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference. It has an enrollment of 1,200 students.
