William 'Bill' Moreland

PRINCETON — William B. Moreland, 90, passed away at home Monday, March 30, 2015.

Bill was born Dec. 20, 1924, to Bon and Effie (Hill) Moreland in Ramsey. He married Oneida Halford on April 29, 1945. Bill and Oneida joined the First Baptist Church in 1950, where he served as deacon for six years and a trustee until 2004. He became a member of the Christian Motorcycle Club in August 1999. He served as a 4-H leader for 17 years and as a Cub Scout leader for two years.

Bill farmed for 47 years, starting in 1946 until he retired in 1994. He joined the Farm Bureau in 1946 and served as a director for several years. He was a big supporter of ethanol and was the first farmer to take delivery in Bureau County. Bill and a neighbor were responsible for keeping 13 railroad crossing open in Bureau County.

Bill is survived by his wife, Oneida; three sons, Gary (Janet) Moreland and David (Barb) Moreland, both of Princeton, and Roger (Peggy) Moreland of Owattonna, Minn.; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Gertie Spires of Princeton; and three brothers, Donald of Henry, Claude of Aledo and Everett of Kings.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Warren Denver in infancy, John of Erie, Kan., and Bob of Brighton, Colo.; and one sister, Geneva Hicks of Amboy.

A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday April 3, at Christ Community Church in Princeton with Pastor Gary Sinclair officiating. Burial will be in Elm Lawn Memorial Park, Princeton.

The family will receive friends during a visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 2, at the Norberg Memorial Home in Princeton.
