Jack Piper

OHIO, Ill. — Edward John “Jack” Piper, 77, of Ohio, Ill., died Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at Walnut Manor Nursing Home in Walnut.

Born May 20, 1937 in Ohio, Ill., the son of Edward Harding and Vivian (Gibson) Piper, he married Janice Krapff on April 27, 1957, at Immaculate Conception Church of Ohio. She preceded him in death on March 31, 1992.

He was a farmer and real estate developer during his lifetime.

He was a very active member of the Immaculate Conception Church of Ohio, where he was a longtime lector, and was an oblate at St. Bede Abbey. He was an Ohio Bulldog Booster Club supporter. He was well known in the area for his famous tea rings, making them for more than 50 years.

Surviving are three sons, Bartley Piper of Ohio, Ill., Scott (Peggy) Piper of Orland Park and Tim (Dawn) Piper of Macomb; three daughters, Cindy (Jim) Schulte of Ohio, Ill., Jackie (Steve) Menk of Platte City, Mo., and Sharon Piper of Princeton, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Tom (Maxine) Piper of Iowa; one sister, Jeri (Paul) Knuth of Wisconsin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Cheri Menk; and two sisters, Sally Donovan and Mary Meyer.

He donated his body to Educational Benefits at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn. A simple service will be at 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, at Immaculate Conception Church in Ohio with Father Thomas Shaw, pastor, officiating. A time of sharing will be held after the service in the church hall.

A memorial has been established.

The Garland Funeral Home in Walnut is in charge of arrangements.
