Lakes 11, Grayslake Central 8
Lakes and Grayslake Central stepped out of conference play Saturday. The Rams for a long time looked as if they were going to pull out a quality nonconference victory when Lakes stormed back for the victory. The Rams were cruising early and held an 8-2 lead in the fifth inning before the Eagles scored the final nine runs of the game. The key inning for Lakes was the fifth when the Eagles sent up 11 batters and scored eight runs. What didn’t help Grayslake Central that inning were three errors in which the Eagles took full advantage. Molly Dietz hit a home run for the eagles to help Ally Perdue earn the victory.
Wauconda 8, Fremd 5
The Bulldogs continued their winning ways Saturday with a nonconference win over Fremd. The story once again for Wauconda was starting pitcher Kayla Wedl. Wedl dominated from the mound, striking out 13 Viking batters and supporting herself at the plate with two home runs. The Bulldogs also got home runs from Hayley Redmann and Brooke Sefcik. Mallory Carver added three hits for Wauconda.
Mundelein 25, Hersey 7
The Mustangs trailed early against Hersey Saturday but the final score didn't spell victory for the Huskies. Mundelein scored 22 combined runs in the second and third innings, cruising to a nonconference victory. Amanda Diaz had a home run to go along with four hits, while Jordyn West also homered and Hannah Bulgart added three hits. The Mustangs improved to 16-4 with the win.
GIRLS SOCCER
Grayslake North
One of the hottest teams in Lake County continued its winning ways this weekend, bringing home more hardware for the trophy case.
After winning the Johnsburg tournament last week, Grayslake North won the Lakes tournament this past weekend. The Knights finished the tournament with a 4-0 record and are still undefeated this season at 14-0-2.
In the championship game Saturday, Grayslake North faced Vernon Hills and won 3-2 in a game that was decided on penalty kicks. The Knights won 5-4 in the penalty kick portion.
Sammie Villwock and Corryn Smith scored the regulation goals for Grayslake North.
Players that made the all-tournament team included Villwock, Loren Davis and Morgan Lyon from Grayslake North. Maya Schmitt, Alyssa Brey and Nicole D’Ambrose from Lakes also made the team.
The Knights have already tied the school record for wins in a single season and still have a few weeks to go.
Antioch 3, Round Lake 0
Antioch and Round Lake met up for a North Suburban Conference matchup Saturday and the Sequoits evened its record with a victory in the Prairie Division showdown. Antioch had a goal from Courtney Coleman and two goals from Mikayla Abbeduto.
BASEBALL
Lakes 5, Lake Forest 4
The Eagles were able to take advantage of five errors from Lake Forest to earn a victory Monday. The leaders for Lakes included Cody Nuxoll, who had three hits, and Matt Nordlund, who had two hits. Bill Morris allowed just one hit in four innings of work to earn the victory from the mound.
Grayslake Central 9, Crystal Lake Central 5
The Rams scored early and were able to hang on to the lead as Grayslake Central claimed a key Fox Valley Conference Fox Division victory Monday. David Llorens had three hits for the Rams while Griffin Shepley added a double and single. Sam Ruhlman picked up his fourth victory of the season.
Antioch 12, Chicago Prep 0
The Sequoits stepped out of conference play Saturday to earn the victory over Chicago Prep in five innings. John Petty and Ben Gutke each had two RBI’s for Antioch. Connor Kaiser earned the victory with no runs allowed in four innings of work.
Hampshire 10, Grayslake North 4
Defense really let the Knights down Saturday as Grayslake North had six errors in the Fox Valley Conference Division loss to Hampshire. Jake Damore and George Deligiannis each had two hits while Merrick Gentile drove in two runs.
BOYS TENNIS
Grayslake Central 4, Crystal Lake South 3
The Rams earned a tough victory over the Gators April 23. The key for Central was the play of its doubles who won three of the four matches to help seal the victory. Earning victories for the Rams was John Knight at number one singles 6-2,6-1, Richard Hutchins and Tejas Paruthooli at number one doubles 6-4,6-4, Ben Sizelove and Jacob Shwaiko at number three doubles 6-1,6-4, and Carson Cerquone and Chase Whetham-Starbird at number four doubles 6-3,4-6,6-4.
Wauconda 5, Antioch 2
Wauconda earned a key North Suburban Conference match April 23 with a sweep of all four doubles matches. The Sequoits had victories at number one singles by Braden Ward 7-5,5-7,6-2 and Brandon Sorensen at number three singles 6-0, 6-0. Wauconda had victories from Oliver Gallego at number two singles 6-2,2-6,6-3, Conor Splingaire and Patel at number one doubles 6-3,6-2, Dominic Mues and Davis Heck at number two doubles 4-6,6-3,7-5, Jarrett Schuetz and Nicholas Kaimakis at number three doubles 6-5,6-1, and Tyrone Pasjol and Isiah Galve at number four doubles 6-0,6-1.
BOYS TRACK
Grant 85, Vernon Hills 61.
Grant was able to pull out the victory in the dual against Vernon Hills Monday. Timmy Brundidge won the 110 high hurdles with a time of 15.0 and the 300 intermediate hurdles at 40.0. Octavian Wells won the 100 for Grant with a time of 11.2 and the 200 with a time of 22.5. Tyler Schaefer won the triple jump for the Bulldogs at 43-7.
