Huntley School District 158 pays designer $1,500 for new logos in rebranding

HUNTLEY – A $1,500 re-branding effort could soon give Huntley School District 158 a new look to go along with the district's updated name.

District administrators recently unveiled four new red-and-black district logos that incorporate the letter "H" dissected in the middle by a pathway. The simple logos should clearly identify the Huntley school district and incorporate its mission, which includes providing students "a pathway to the future," said district spokesman Dan Armstrong.

Along with new visuals, administrators want to label the district as Huntley Community School District 158 to create a stronger identity with those who live outside of the Huntley area.

"Huntley Community School District 158 puts us on the map, literally and figuratively," Armstrong said.

The district paid graphic designer Robert Voigts, who owns Wordsworth Design in Naperville, $1,500 to design the new logos. The four logos allows the district to use the different designs for different applications, Armstrong said.

Officials also plan to use the name change for branding purposes while maintaining the official name of Consolidated School District 158.

The new name recognizes what people have popularly called the school district for years, Armstrong said. It also leverages Huntley's reputation as a community and acknowledges the district's flagship school – Huntley High School, he said.

The district re-branding effort developed from the district's strategic planning process.

Numerous district staff developed the five-year vision that covers 2015 to 2020. It includes long-term goals to improve student achievement, attract and retain high-quality staff and other benchmarks.

Board members last week were generally supportive of the re-branding changes. Members formally vote on the changes during their regular meeting May 21.
