Two arrested for burglaries

A Forreston man and a Mt. Morris juvenile have been arrested for burglarizing three Ogle County businesses.

Zachary J. Popp, 20, Forreston, was arrested June 5 for burglarizing the Citgo gas station in Leaf River on April 12, the Shell gas station in Grand Detour on April 14, and Chesty P’s Pub in Polo on April 22.

Popp was additionally charged with failure to register as a sex offender, according to information provided by the Ogle County Sheriff’s Department.

Popp is currently in the Ogle County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bond.

At a hearing Monday, Judge John B. Roe appointed Public Defender Dennis Riley to represent him and set a preliminary hearing for June 17.

Also arrested was a 17-year-old male from Mt. Morris on two counts of burglary. The male is alleged to have burglarized the same Citgo gas station and Shell gas station.

The male was taken into custody and transported to a juvenile detention center.

The investigation is ongoing and further arrests are pending.

“The sheriff’s office would like to thank the citizens of Ogle County who provided valuable information on these burglaries and we remind the public if they have information on criminal activity, they are encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers at 888-228-4488,” said Ogle County Sheriff Brian VanVickle.
