NSLS chapter induction ceremony at KC

The Kishwaukee College chapter of the National Society of Leadership and Success held an induction ceremony on campus April 30. The NSLS chapter at Kishwaukee College was established in Fall 2014. The chapter adviser is Allison Von Ende.

The mission of NSLS is to help students discover and achieve their goals. The Society, founded by Gary Tuerack, emphasizes the six steps of leadership: clarification of purpose, creation of a shared vision, challenge of the status quo, inspiration of positive action, empowerment of others, and continuous improvement. The society was founded in 2001 and has nearly 500,000 members at 478 colleges across the United States.

At the induction ceremony at Kishwaukee College, 23 students joined NSLS with eight of the new inductees recognized for earning the National Engaged Leadership Award.

Joining the Society are:

Creston: Alicia Davis (NELA recipient);

DeKalb: Kayla Bell, Peter Ekhator, Fernando Garcia (NELA recipient), Sheila Green (NELA recipient), David Hahn, Alexandra Hoyle (NELA recipient), Vanessa Kooken, Xica McClain (NELA recipient) and Andre Smith Jr.;

Genoa: Daniel Hansen (NELA recipient), Blake Kohout (NELA recipient) and Tyler L’Huiller;

Lee: Samuel Bybee;

Sycamore: Sabrina Gandsey, Norma Gregorio-Perez, Patrick T. Lozier and Kortne Shott.

In addition, several Kishwaukee College faculty and staff members were recognized for their dedication to the student experience. Inducted as Honorary Members of NSLS were Nancy Partch, dean of student services, SyLinda Menafee, (former) coordinator of retention and student success, and Allison Von Ende, coordinator of student activities.

Receiving recognition for Excellence in Teaching were Matt Read, mathematics instructor, Laurie Hoecherl, mathematics instructor, and Anthony Thomas, philosophy instructor and coordinator of the Honors Program.

Receiving recognition for Excellence in Service to Students were Laura Chiavini, creative communication specialist with marketing and public relations and adviser to the Alpha Rho Eta chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, and Anne-Marie Eggleston Green, director of library services and adviser to Latinos Unidos student organization.
