FaceTime with Jennifer Jarland

Jennifer Jarland, 44, a resident of Chicago, was in her office located in Geneva when she answered 10 questions for Kane County Chronicle intern Anna Dutton.

Where did you grow up? Billings, Montana. Then we moved to Australia for 17 years. It was a very laid-back culture and a community-based lifestyle.

What is your job? Recycling program coordinator for the Kane County Division of Environmental Resources. I manage monthly recycling events, publish a public recycling education yearly newsletter, and I run the recycling hotline.

What is your favorite part about your job? The events are very difficult, but I love it. I feel satisfied when I see cars line up and see so many people recycle.

Who would play you in the movie of your life? Arnold Schwarzenegger. I have a “get-this-job-done-and-well” attitude.

First job? I worked for my uncle at his hairdresser business, Custom Cuts. I would clean and sanitize after-hours.

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? Architect. I’ve always loved drawing floor plans.

A movie you’d recommend? “Mr. Nobody”

Favorite charity? Natural Resources Defense Council, Sierra Club, Green America

Do you speak another language? Japanese. I lived there for two years.

Favorite local restaurant? Preservation Bread and Wine
