The Sycamore High School Music Department named Baylie Petit and Jordyn Shultz the 2015 Concerto Competition winners.
Baylie Petit, on cello, performed Gabriel Faure’s “Elegie, Op. 24.” She was selected to perform in the ILMEA Orchestra all four years in high school and was a member of the All-State Orchestra (the highest level at the ILMEA Conference) her sophomore, junior, and senior years.
She was awarded Best of Day for her solo and ensemble performance in 2014, and received the National School Orchestra Award from her peers in May. This fall, Petit will study at Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, New York, majoring in music therapy and playing on the softball team.
Jordyn Shultz performed Richard Strauss’ “Horn Concerto No. 1, Allegro” on French horn. She was selected to participate in the ILMEA Orchestra all four years in high school and the ILMEA All-State Orchestra her junior and senior years, sitting sixth chair in state this year.
She also participated in the Northern Illinois Big 12 Band Festival all four years of high school. She received all Division I ranks at her high school solo and ensemble competitions, and her woodwind quintet received Best of Day at this year’s IHSA Solo & Ensemble contest.
Shultz will attend Illinois State University as a music education major with intentions on transferring to Arizona State University in the music education program.
