Streetlight, sidewalk project progressing in Oregon

Oregon’s new streetlight and sidewalk project is progressing, despite the wet weather obstacles from Mother Nature.

City Commissioner Tom Izer told the city council Tuesday night that the southwest quadrant, on the east of the Ogle County Courthouse square, is complete.

“The southeast quadrant, Harvard Bank side, should be finished next week,” said Izer, reading from a prepared statement. “The fuel tanks by the old Bemis Motors, the northeast quadrant, are scheduled to be removed next Thursday so that quadrant could possibly be completed by the end of next week if the weather cooperates. Once these are complete, the northwest quadrant demolition will begin.”

Izer said all of the old iron street light poles had been sold. They had been offered to the public at $50 a piece.

Izer said there are plenty of “Memorial/Dedication” plaques available for each new street light pole being installed.

“The cost is $1,000 each which includes a 6” x 6” bronze plaque with your choice of wording,” he said. “Stop by City Hall to see a map of available poles left.”
