Members of the 17th Cook County Board District Committee selected Palos Township committeeman Sean Morrison as the district’s new Cook County commissioner during a July 22 meeting.
Morrison replaces Elizabeth Doody Gorman, who announced her resignation from the Cook County Board of Commissioners during a special board meeting July 15.
According to a news release, Morrison is CEO and founder of Morrison Security Corporation in Alsip.
He was the only candidate to submit his credentials and was overwhelmingly selected, according to the release.
Morrison will fill the remaining three years of Gorman’s term.
The 17th district includes all or part of Indian Head Park, La Grange Park, Lemont, Riverside and Willow Springs, Bensenville, Berkeley, Brookfield, Burr Ridge, Countryside, Hillside, Hinsdale, Hodgkins, La Grange, Oak Brook, Westchester and Western Springs.
According to the release, Morrison is active in Republican politics and was elected State Central Committeeman of the 3rd Congressional District.
According to a July 15 news release, Gorman said she was resigning to take a position with a Fortune 100 company in Chicago.
Gorman represented Cook County’s 17th District for nearly 13 years on the board.
“My years of service on the Cook County Board of Commissioners have been some of the most rewarding of my life,” Gorman said in her letter of resignation.
