Hall High School cheerleaders attend camp

Car wash planned for Saturday

SPRING VALLEY — The Hall High School cheerleaders attended a camp on June 29 to July 1 hosted by the Universal Cheerleading Association (UCA).

The squad was taught cheers, dances, stunts and other skills to prepare them for the upcoming football and basketball seasons. Both the junior varsity and varsity squads received superior awards for their hard work and accomplishments at camp.

The girls also had the opportunity to tryout to be a UCA All-American. They were judged on their jumps, a cheer and a dance. Senior Luciana Mautino and juniors Alyse Ruda, Faith Whightsil and Kaitlyn Huston participated in the tryout, and all four were chosen as All-Americans. Mautino, Ruda, Whightsil and Huston are invited to perform at the New Year’s Day parade in London, England, with other all-American cheerleaders from across the country.

The cheerleaders are coached by Sara Green.

On Saturday, Aug. 8, the cheerleaders will have a car wash fundraiser from 9 a.m. to noon at Precision Auto Wash in Spring Valley. Funds raised at the car wash will go toward purchasing materials such as signs, pom poms and mats. The cost per vehicle will be $5 per car and $7 per truck/van. Donations are appreciated to help purchase the aforementioned items.
