Russell G. Siefken Sr.

MORRISON – Russell Garrett Siefken Sr., 94, of Morrison, died Friday, Aug. 14, 2015, at Resthave Home in Morrison.

Russell was born Jan. 21, 1921, in Round Grove to Earl and Frances (Reap) Siefken.

He was educated in the Morrison schools and was a 1938 graduate of Morrison High School.

He married Dorothy Hiddleson on Feb. 14, 1942, in Morrison.

Russell served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II before working at the Morrison post office. After 32 years there, he retired in 1978.

He was a member of the Morrison United Methodist Church, where he served on various committees and boards. He was a Morrison alderman of Ward 4 for 36 consecutive years. He was also a member of the selective service draft board in Whiteside County. He was a 70-year member of Morrison American Legion Post #328.

Russell enjoyed camping until the flood of 1993 at Landuits Lake, and was an avid Chicago Cubs and Green Bay Packers fan.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; two sons, Russell (Carol) Siefken Jr. of Sterling, and Steven (Deeny) Siefken of Morrison; three grandchildren, Tara Siefken, Mandy Freeman, and Jeff (Melissa) Siefken; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, his twin, Raymond, and Marvin E. Siefken.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. today, and the funeral at 10:30 a.m. today, at Morrison United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ryan Sutton officiating. Interment will be at Grove Hill Cemetery in Morrison, with military funeral honors.

A memorial has been established.
