William E. Ryan

STERLING – William E. Ryan, 81, of Sterling died Sunday, Aug. 23, 2015, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling.

Bill was born on Jan. 29, 1934, in Sterling, the son of Joseph J. Sr. and Martha (Johnson) R.N. Ryan.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He married Shirley A. Harden on Feb. 18, 1958 at St. Mary Church in Clinton, Iowa. He worked at Northwestern Steel and Wire in the furnace department.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Ryan of Sterling; one brother-in-law, George Logan of Rock Falls; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one stillborn daughter; two sisters, Patricia Logan and Margaret Ann Coble; one brother, Joseph J. Ryan Jr.; and one foster sister, Marge Selpein Collins.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Private graveside services were held on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2015, at Riverside Cemetery in Sterling with Deacon John Kellen officiating.

Garland Funeral Home in Walnut was in charge of arrangements.
