Ellen Eiten

LADD — Ellen M. Eiten, 90, of Ladd died at 11:25 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2015, at St. Margaret’s Hospital in Spring Valley.

Ellen was born April 28, 1925, in Ladd to Henry and Anabel (Flaherty) Knauf. She married Lyle R. Eiten Nov. 3, 1951, in St. Benedict Church in Ladd.

Ellen gave her time, talent and treasures to her community. She enjoyed playing bridge and traveling. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She was past president of Illinois American Heart Association and past president of Bureau and Putnam County American Heart Fund Drive. She was a member of St. Benedict Church and past president of the Altar and Rosary Society, and a member of St. Margaret’s Hospital Foundation Board, Deer Park Country Club Board and Illinois Valley Garden Club. She graduated from St. Clara Academy in Sinsinawa, Wis., attended LPO Junior College and graduated from the University of Illinois.

She is survived by two sons, Atty. Gary (Mary Alice) Eiten of Peru and Nick (Christine) Eiten of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; a daughter-in-law, Judge Karen Eiten of Peru; and 10 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle, on June 25, 2012; one son, Don Eiten, on April 29, 2004; and one brother, Henry “Bud” Knauf.

A Mass Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, in St. Joseph’s Church in Peru with the Rev. Harold Datzman, O.S.B., and the Rev. Ronald Margherio, O.S.B., officiating. Burial will be in Valley Memorial Park in Spring Valley.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, in the Hurst Funeral Home in Ladd and one hour prior to the services Saturday, Sept. 5, in the church.

Memorials may be directed to St. Bede Academy, St. Clara Convent, American Heart Association or Ladd Library.
