Four-thousand-five-hundred sailors lined the grass of Naval Station Great Lakes’ Ross Field Oct. 8 as part of the service dress blue uniform inspection of Training Support Center (TSC) Great Lakes Sailors.
“Looking good in uniform is the most important thing we can do to maintain the professionalism of the U.S. Navy,” said Command Master Chief Jeffrey Kirby, TSC command master chief. “Our junior officers and the newest chief (petty officers) need to know how to properly conduct a uniform inspection and have the courage to tell a sailor if their uniform is too tight or loose.”
To be able to bring the sailors who have varying school and watch schedules to one location required a great deal of effort from the TSC Navy Military training instructors (NMTI) and the TSC leadership.
“The execution of getting 4,500 sailors onto the parade field on time and ready was flawless - our staff should be commended for the preparation and effort that each of them put into their uniforms and the professionalism of their ships,” Kirby said. “Capt. Vliet, Cmdr. Milligan and I walked away from the inspection feeling good about the future of the Navy, these sailors get it and they are ready.”
