WOOSUNG – George Edward Helfrich Sr., 90, of Woosung, died Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2015, at Polo Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. He worked for Northwestern Steel and Wire Co. in Sterling for 37 years before his retirement.
George was born Oct. 6, 1925, in Dixon, the son of Roy and Millie (Fisher) Helfrich. He served in the Army during the Korean War.
He is survived by four sons: George (Linda) Helfrich Jr. of Dixon, Rick Helfrich of LeRoy, Greg (Connie) Helfrich of Victorville, California, and Rob (Irene) Helfrich of Lancaster, California; two daughters: Sue (Norman) Martin of Franklin Grove and Penny Helfrich-Sadler of Bradley; one brother, Raymond Helfrich, and one sister, Ethel (Herb) Stader, both of Dixon; 19 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Lori Jackson; one grandson, Bryon Helfrich; and several brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m., with the family present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Friday at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon. There will be no services. Cremation rites will be accorded.
