Face Time with Sarah Totman

Geneva resident Sarah Totman, 52, was at the Stiletto Sprint at LivingWell Cancer Resource Center in Geneva when she answered 12 questions for the Kane County Chronicle's Brenda Schory.

Where did you grow up? DeKalb

Pets? A yellow Lab named Sadie and a rabbit named Snowbale

Who would play you in the
movie of your life? Melina
Kanakaredes, because people ask me for her autograph all the time

First job? Paper girl

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? A travel writer or an elephant trainer. I'm a dancer. I teach movement and dance. I am a Nia instructor at State Street Dance Studio in Geneva.

A movie you’d recommend? “Little Boy”

Favorite charity? LivingWell Cancer Resource Center. I am a cancer survivor. I had Hodgkin lymphoma in 1997. They found it in January. ... The cancer treatment took almost all of 1997, and I've been cancer-free as of October 1997. If it's going to come back, it's usually in the first year.

Words of wisdom? If you think you can, or you think you can’t, you’re right. Henry Ford said it, but I love it.

Favorite ice cream flavor? Chocolate chip

Do you have children? Three

Favorite local restaurant? Bien Trucha in Geneva

What is an interesting factoid about yourself? I went to the Emmys with my son in 2011 for his 18th birthday. I bought tickets to raise money for Marklund. We saw a lot of celebrities. We got to walk the red carpet, which was outstanding. We had really cool outfits and got to meet celebrities all along the red carpet.
