JOLIET – Parishioners celebrated Veteran's Day at All Saints Greek Orthodox Church in Joliet by dedicating a veteran's memorial. The bronze and granite monument honors all parishioners that have served in the armed forces of the United States.
The Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery Memorial Squad posted and retired colors. A liturgical celebration was conducted by Rev. Stephen Bithos, who recently celebrated his 23rd year as parish priest.
The parish's two most senior veterans – from World War II – Peter Nichols and George Kesich – were also honored. MG (ret.) James H. Mukoyama USAR unveiled the monument and later delivered the remarks during the luncheon that followed the ceremony.
The parish's fundraising efforts were so successful that it also presented donations to Military Outreach U.S.A., Honor Flight Chicago, Operation Care Package, the ALNCMS and Fisher House at Hines Veteran's Hospital.
All Saints will celebrate its centennial year in 2016
