ROCK FALLS – Jason Wayne Griffis, 37, of Rock Falls, died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2015, at Trinity Medical Center in Rock Island.
Jason was born Oct. 13, 1978, in Sterling, the son of Gary L. Griffis and Brenda L. (Haas) Voss. He was attending Western Illinois University at the Quad City campus, working to complete his bachelor’s degree. Before that, he completed his associate degree at Sauk Valley Community College. There, he made the dean’s list. Jason was extremely musically talented and played bass guitar in the band Rotten Drapes.
Survivors include his parents, Gary (Karen) Griffis of Rock Falls and Brenda Voss of Rock Falls; paternal grandparents, LaVetta Griffis of Rock Falls and Carl Griffis Jr. of Sterling; maternal grandparents, Herb Haas of Mount Vernon, Indiana, Marian Haas of Carmi, and Carol and Jim Rogers of Cadiz, Kentucky; two daughters, Brailey (Tyler Eberhardt) Johnson and Demi Griffis, both of Rock Falls; one granddaughter, Taylin Eberhardt; seven siblings, Joanie (Jason) Oliver of Carmi, Jonathan Poling of Dixon, Jammi Griffis of Gulf Port, Mississippi, Justin (Michelle) Griffis of Ocala, Florida, Jenni Linboom of Sterling, and Phillip Lewis and Chase Lewis, both of Rock Falls; his girlfriend, Sydni Loftus; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by one uncle, Randy Griffis.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, and the Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Rock Falls. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Prophetstown.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
