Hall High School English teacher Ann Maller had her students participate in the “Voice of Democracy” contest. Entrants used the prompt “My Vision For America” and completed a written essay along with a recorded audio version. Entries were judged on originality, content and delivery. This year’s winner, Ashley Choate, proudly accepts her $100 check and a certificate from “Voice of Democracy” chairman Frances Belcher (left) and president of Peru VFW Post 8232 and Ladies Auxiliary Donna Mueller. After being notified of the winning entry, Maller said, “Ashley’s essay presents a powerful and moving vision filled with optimism and hope for America’s future.“ Choate’s parents are Bill and Melissa McLain of Spring Valley.
