SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois State Senate adopted a resolution Wednesday designating the section of Illinois Route 47 from Spring Road to DuPont Road in Grundy County as the "Sheriff Terry Marketti Memorial Highway" in honor of the longtime public servant and law enforcement leader who passed away in 2012. The bill is HJR 98.
The resolution was introduced by state Rep. John Anthony, R-Joliet, in September and adopted Oct. 20 by the House of Representatives.
It was sponsored in the state Senate by Sen. Tim Bivins, R-Dixon, who served as Lee County sheriff for 20 years and was a longtime colleague of Marketti.
“The hallmark of Sheriff Marketti’s life was public service and giving back to the community,” Anthony said. “Throughout his life, he donated generously to local charities and nonprofit organizations. He also served on the boards of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Will and Grundy County, Grundy Area P.A.D.S. [Public Action to Deliver Shelter] and the Community Foundation of Grundy County, to name just a few.
“I thank Senator Bivins for sponsoring this resolution and would like to take this opportunity to also thank all the men and women of our local and county law enforcement agencies for their dedication and service to the community,” Anthony added. “As a former municipal cop and county sheriff’s deputy, I have great respect for what you do each and every day. Be safe.”
The Illinois Department of Transportation will erect signage for the Sheriff Terry Marketti Memorial Highway at a date to be determined later this year.
Public notice will be given in advance so that members of the community who wish to attend can be present.
