DeKALB – A fire Thursday at a DeKalb apartment building, temporarily displaced four Northern Illinois University students.
The fire broke out at an eight-unit apartment building at 711 Lucinda Ave. damaging one of the units where the four live.
The DeKalb, Sycamore and Cortland Fire Departments responded to the apartment building at 4:08 p.m. after two of the residents reported heavy smoke and heat coming from a roommate's bedroom, DeKalb Deputy Fire Chief Greg Hoyle said.
Firefighters said they saw flames when they entered the building. The fire took about five minutes to control, Hoyle said.
Two of the apartment's residents were not home when the fire started.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
