Fox River Grove man charged with DUI after crashing into building with girl in van

34-year-old also charged with child endangering, driving on revoked license

CRYSTAL LAKE – A Fox River Grove man was charged with driving under the influence and endangering the life of a child after he drove 4 feet into a building near Crystal Lake with a 7-year-old passenger, police and fire officials said.

Richard G. Fanslow, 34, was driving a Ford van south on Country Club Road near Hillside Road about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday when he crashed into a building, McHenry County Sheriff's Deputy Aimee Knop said.

Fanslow, as well as the 7-year-old girl, were taken to Centegra Hospital – Woodstock with injuries that were not life-threatening, Crystal Lake Fire/Rescue District Battalion Chief Tom Pollnow said.

Fanslow was taken to McHenry County Jail after he was released from the hospital, Knop said. He was released from jail after posting bond Wednesday, according to jail records.

Knop said the child was released into the care of a relative. Knop would not comment on the relationship of the child to Fanslow.

Knop said Fanslow was charged with DUI, endangering the life/health of a child and driving on a revoked license, all Class A misdemeanors.

He also was cited for five petty offenses: transportation of open alcohol, improper lane use, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, driving too fast for conditions and a child seat violation, Knop said. Pollnow said the building was being renovated by a contractor and sustained structural damage in the crash.
