Lemont’s boys basketball reached an impressive milestone Feb. 16.

A 62-45 win against Tinley Park on that day not only ensured a winning record for the season but gave Lemont its fifth consecutive season with at least 15 victories.

PJ Pipes scored 20 points, Nick Wisz finished with 15 and Austin Tittle tallied 13 against the Titans as Lemont improved to 15-9 overall and 8-3 in the South Suburban Conference.

Lemont hosts TF North at 7 p.m. Feb. 19 in the final home game of the season, then heads to TF South for the regular-season finale Feb. 26.

Lemont wrestling

Egan Berta won a title at the Class 2A sectional that Lemont hosted Feb. 13 to lead a contingent of four Lemont wrestlers to the state meet.

Berta was dominant in his run to the title at 145 pounds. He started with a first-period pin in the quarterfinals and won his semifinal bout 5-0 before capturing the title with a 5-1 decision.

Jake Kirkman won by fall just 32 seconds into his 152-pound semifinal match to move on to the finals, where he placed second. He also advanced to the state meet.

Damyen Gothard followed a similar route to the title match at 160. He pinned his semifinal opponent at the 4:43 mark before finishing second in the bracket.

John Polk won by fall in a backdraw semifinal at 170, and he went on to finish fourth to secure a state berth.

The state meet began with preliminary matches Feb. 18 at the State Farm Center in Champaign.

Championship, third- and fifth-place matches were scheduled to take place Feb. 20.

Pat Flynn went 2-2 at 285 pounds and Jack Leffler was 1-2 at 106, but they did not make it to state.

Lemont girls basketball

Lemont defeated Waubonsie Valley 60-49 in a Class 4A regional quarterfinal game it hosted Feb. 15. The win earned the No. 11-seeded Indians a shot at No. 6 Bolingbrook in a regional semifinal Feb. 17.

Lemont girls bowling

Junior Breanna Malak had a high game of 211 as she bowled a 1,057 series at the Joliet West sectional tournament Feb. 13. Malak, however, came up just short of making it to the state tourney.

Her sectional score came on the heels of a solid regional tourney (1,127 total) for Malak.
