ROCK FALLS – Elaine Handel, 99, of Rock Falls, died Saturday, Feb. 27, 2016, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling.

She was born April 2, 1916, in Spring Valley, the daughter of Charles and Margaret (Snapoonis) Josephsen. She married Donald Handel on March 14, 1942, in Missouri. He died Feb. 26, 1990.

Elaine devoted her life to caring for her loving family.

Survivors include her daughter, Judith Golden of Rock Falls; her son, Donald (Diana) Handel of Harmon; her daughter-in-law, Linda Handel of Sterling; her sisters, Thora Schauff and Margaret Rutherford, both of Dixon; eight grandchildren: Cliff Golden, Mista Helms, Chariti Douglas, Dena Handel, Deanna Handel, Dawn Handel, Brooke DePauw and Justina Waters; 17 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by her son, Denis Handel, and four brothers.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at McDonald Funeral Home, 1002 12th Ave. in Rock Falls. The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon.
