Glen Ellyn building that houses abortion clinic for sale

GLEN ELLYN – A building housing an abortion clinic that has been the subject of numerous protests since it opened in 2002 is for sale.

Aanchor Health Center, 1186 Roosevelt Road, Glen Ellyn, performs surgical and non-surgical abortions and provides family medicine and gynecological and urology services. The facility opened in 2002 over the objections of protesters who submitted petitions to village officials asking that the clinic not be allowed to open.

The center's building has been on the market for six weeks, said Randy Taylor, real estate broker with Coldwell Banker. The 3,680-square-foot building was listed for $1.2 million Feb. 21.

Aanchor also has centers in Downers Grove, Wood Dale and Chicago. Although Taylor couldn't offer many details about why the center is closing, he thought Aanchor wanted to consolidate offices.

The center still is operating in the building while it is for sale, he said. The building is being shown by appointment only on Thursdays and Fridays.

"We have had a couple of showings already," Taylor said. "I think the interest is favorable. It's in a corridor that has good visibility and high traffic counts."

The building is located just east of Interstate 355, near the Crowne Plaza hotel. According to the building's listing, it was built in 1983 and remodeled/updated this year. It has two surgical rooms as well as three exam rooms.
