Another Hebron trustee calls for Jacobson's resignation after cocaine arrest

John Jacobson, 68, the village president of Hebron, has been charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, a Class 4 felony; unlawful possession of a firearm without a requisite firearms owner identification card, a Class 3 felony; two counts of unlawful possession of firearm ammunition and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, both misdemeanors.

HEBRON – At least two Hebron trustees have called for Village President John Jacobson's resignation in light of his recent arrest on drug and firearms charges.

In an email from Hebron Trustee Mark Mogan to Jacobson, obtained by the Northwest Herald through a Illinois Freedom of Information Act request, Mogan wrote he respectfully requested Jacobson’s “immediate resignation.”

“This is entirely in the best interests of the village,” Mogan wrote in the email. “Secondarily, I feel that you have a problem [and] that you need to take the time to commit yourself to getting the help you need. I don’t think that can be done with the duties and pressures that come with the position, especially from this point forward.”

Mogan, Jacobson and other village trustees did not return multiple requests for comment.

Jacobson was arrested March 22 after police found cocaine, drug paraphernalia and a shotgun and ammunition in his home after a March 17 incident. Jacobson, 68, also faced drug charges before he was elected village president in 2013.

Hebron Trustee Drew Georgi, other residents and business owners also have called for Jacobson's resignation. Georgi said he is consulting with his lawyers before releasing a petition asking Jacobson to resign.

At his first court appearance Tuesday, Jacobson was granted permission to travel to Wisconsin for work and shopping. He is expected to reappear in court April 26 for a preliminary hearing.
