EUREKA — Eureka College has selected six incoming freshmen as Reagan Fellows in the Ronald W. Reagan Leadership Program.
The award, based on leadership, service and academic excellence, includes a full-tuition scholarship over four years as well as global travel and professional mentorship opportunities. The students were selected from 80 semifinalists in a competition held on campus in February.
Among the six students was Jacob Doan, the son of Pat and Denise Doan of Princeton.
Doan attends Princeton High School, where he is involved in Scholastic Bowl, Science Club and is a mentor for the Ignition Program, a program that helps make the transition to high school easier for incoming freshmen. He is also an Illinois State Scholar, a Bureau County Elk Teen of the Month and has received a certificate of academic excellence. He plans to major in mathematics with teacher certification.
“We are extremely pleased to welcome these six new Reagan Fellows to this distinguished leadership program,” said Eureka College President J. David Arnold. “All of them have achieved superb records of excellence in learning, service and leadership during high school. Their futures are bright, and we are delighted that they chose Eureka as their special place to flourish during their college years.”
Besides receiving full tuition, Reagan Fellows participate in workshops and retreats throughout the school year.
Fellows travel as a group during their freshman year to a domestic or international destination. During the summers of their sophomore and junior years, Reagan Fellows have mentorships with leaders in their areas of study in the United States and abroad. The program provides funding to support travel and living expenses incurred as part of the mentorships.
The Reagan Leadership Program is in its 32nd year. The program is named for Ronald W. Reagan, 40th president of the United States and a 1932 graduate of Eureka College.
