Glendale Heights Police Department appoints new chief

GLENDALE HEIGHTS – Village of Glendale Heights President Linda Jackson has appointed a new chief of police, Douglas Flint, who was sworn in April 7 at the Village Board meeting and has begun serving his duties.

Flint has been a member of the Glendale Heights Police Department since 1988. He began his career as a patrol officer and worked his way through the ranks, gaining experience as investigations detective, special operations detective, firearms and range sergeant, training sergeant, patrol shift supervisor, sergeant of the Criminal Investigations Division, and, most recently, deputy chief of support operations.

During his tenure with the department, Flint garnered accolades, including five division meritorious awards, 10 honorable mention awards and recognition from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms for a long-term investigation operation. He has been vital in a number of major accomplishments for the department, including contributing to the Glendale Heights accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, developing and implementing active shooter drills with the school districts, and upgrading the Glendale Heights Citizens Police Academy curriculum.

“I am proud to be able to serve the residents and police officers of Glendale Heights as chief of police,” Flint said in the release. “I am grateful for this opportunity, and intend to give the very best of myself to the challenge of protecting and serving the community. The safety of the residents of Glendale Heights has always been my top priority.”

Flint will fill the position recently vacated by former Chief Michael Marron, who had held the post for the past 10 years before retiring as the longest serving chief of police in Glendale Heights.

“After an extensive search process, I knew Chief Flint was the right person for this position. I am extremely confident in Chief Flint’s abilities to serve the residents of Glendale Heights as their new chief of police,” Jackson said. “He is stepping into a role that has seen many great leaders, and I know Chief Flint will continue that tradition of being a great leader while keeping the safety of the residents of Glendale Heights in his vision.”
