SUGAR GROVE – The Sugar Grove Public Library plans on opening Gallery 125 this summer.
The upcoming gallery will include a display adjacent to Modest Coffee, which is scheduled to move into the library later this spring.
“We’re excited to allow Kaneland artisans to submit their art for display, and now we’ll be able to do that,” Sugar Grove Public Library Director Shannon Halikias said. “It’s something where we hope to be able to rotate art quarterly and even be able to sell some items to the public.”
The arts are dear to Sugar Grove and the Kaneland community as a whole.
“It’s a nice way for us to highlight art in a public place,” Halikias said. “I’ve opened up similar art galleries in other libraries and they’ve been very successful. This gives us a chance to help promote local artisans on our walls and in the boutique.”
A press release from the Kaneland Arts Initiative stated, “We believe in encouraging people’s involvement in, appreciation of and support for artistic endeavors and fostering the development of artistic abilities.”
Halikias hopes the art gallery will be something that catches the eyes of customers as soon as they enter the Sugar Grove Public Library.
“We think it’s a great direction for us,” she said. “We’re excited to move forward.”
