High school sports roundup: York boys lacrosse wins conference, Dukes send four to girls state track

York’s boys lacrosse team clinched its second straight West Suburban Conference title May 17 with a 10-7 win against Lyons Township. The Dukes improved to 13-5 on the season and will open postseason play May 24.

GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD

IC Catholic

Kiersten King was the 200-meter dash champion with a time of 26.15 seconds at the Class 1A Marshall sectional May 13 to earn a state meet berth.

King anchored Kerry Mulligan, Jaida Smith and Katie Harvey on the second place 4x100 relay (52.07) that made state, and Smith added a state meet berth in the triple jump (34 feet, 4.25 inches).

Timothy Christian

Olivia Hoekstra, Rachel Stoll, Valerie Hoekstra and Hannah Bosman teamed up to win the 4x400-meter relay in 4:23.99 at the Class 1A Marshall sectional May 13. The 4x100 and Olivia Hoekstra, Zoe Stanton, Alyse Schnurr and Bosman on the 4x200 (second, 1:50.83) also earned state berths.

York

The Dukes had two champions and earned two additional state meet berths at the Class 3A Lake Park sectional May 13. Sarah May won the 800-meter run in 2:15.64 and Jeanette Morley cleared 5 feet, 5 inches to win the high jump. Elizabeth Hagstrom was second in the 1,600 run (5:04.52) and ran in front of Katherine Tomaska, Julie Biggins and May on the 4x800 relay that was second in 9:25.98.

BOYS WATER POLO

York

The Dukes knocked off Fenwick 10-9 on May 14 to take home the title at their own sectional and book a spot at the state finals for the first time since 2008. Tim Evely (101 goals), Isaac Marlott (64 goals) and Tyler McKenna (307 saves) have led the way for York (23-7-2).

BADMINTON

York

Julia Dierksheide made it to the quarterfinals of consolation play in singles action and Irin Abraham and Grace Mazzocco advanced to the fifth round of consolation action in doubles at the state tournament May 14. Catherine Novak and Rosie O’Connor competed in two doubles matches.

GIRLS SOCCER

York/Willowbrook

The Dukes defeated Willowbrook 6-1 on May 17 in a semifinal of the Lyons Township regional and will face LT in the championship game at 6 p.m. May 20.
