Michael Winters

STERLING – Michael Winters, 67, of Sterling, died Saturday, July 23, 2016, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling.

Born Jan. 14, 1949, in St. Louis, he was a son of Jesse Lee and Alice (Dilday) Winters. In 1981, he married Kathleen Halley in Palos Hills.

The only thing that matched his love for his son, Michael Patrick, was the love that he had for his granddaughter, Presley. He enjoyed spending time with her, and never turned down an opportunity to do so. Papa Mike and Presley shared a unique bond and Presley lovingly referred to her Papa Mike as her best friend. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with all of his family. There wasn’t a broken item that Mike couldn’t fix as he loved fixing things. He also was an avid fan of the Beatles.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Kathleen of Sterling; a son, Michael Patrick (Alison) Winters of Sterling; special granddaughter and best friend, Presley Winters; a sister, Diane Gikas of Indiana; a brother, Lee Winters of Tennessee; and favorite nephew, Michael Shawn Sanders of Sterling.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and two sisters.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Per his wishes, no services are planned at this time. McDonald Funeral Home & Crematory in Rock Falls handled arrangements.
