GLEN ELLYN – After being moved to Maryknoll Park in 2015 because of the Lake Ellyn Boathouse restoration project, the 47th annual Glen Ellyn Festival of the Arts will return this month to Lake Ellyn Park.
The festival, presented by the Glen Ellyn Lions Club, will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 27 and 28. The festival is moving back to Lake Ellyn Park, 645 Lenox Road, following the completion of the boathouse project.
In case of rain, art will be moved into the Lake Ellyn Boathouse. There is no rain date for the event.
The free festival will feature a juried art show along with two days of musical entertainment, including Anima – Glen Ellyn Children's Chorus, which will perform from 10 to 11 a.m. Aug. 27. A full schedule is available by going to the festival's Facebook page at facebook.com/GlenEllynFestivalOfTheArts.
The Glen Ellyn Jaycees started the event, but the Glen Ellyn Lions Club took it over in 2004. All net proceeds generated from the Festival of the Arts are donated back to the community through the Glen Ellyn Lions Foundation Inc., which helps to provide eye exams, glasses and hearing aids for local school children and the elderly and supports other local charitable organizations as well as the Illinois Lions Foundation and the International Lions Foundation.
Prior to the festival, an artist gala will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Aug. 26 in the Lake Ellyn Boathouse. Those who attend will be able to meet some of the artists involved in the festival, said Rachel Wincenciak, membership chairwoman with the Glen Ellyn Lions Club.
Food and refreshments will be served as part of the gala, she said. Food vendors also will be on hand during the festival, and a beer garden serving beer and wine will operate throughout the festival.
More than 80 artists from all over the country are expected to participate in the Glen Ellyn Festival of the Arts. Artist demonstrations will be part of the festival, Wincenciak said.
"We have a wide range of artists, from budding artists to accomplished artists," she said.
