MAHOMET – John W. Clayton, 48, of Mahomet, died suddenly Monday, Aug. 15, 2016, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
He was born Aug. 25, 1967, in Amboy, to Donald J. and Clara M. (Forristall) Clayton. John was a 1985 graduate of Amboy High School. He completed his degree in 1987 at Morrison Institute of Technology. During and after his college education, he worked as a draftsman for V&C Construction and Production Engineered Products in Walnut. He then worked for Eagle Foods in Milan, before becoming senior project manager in 1998 for SuperValu – Save-A-Lot Foods. John was an avid hunter and took an annual hunting trip with several friends. He loved spending time with his children and enjoyed coaching them in baseball and softball. He loved Notre Dame, Pittsburgh Steelers football, and all things John Wayne. He was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Mahomet and Friends of the NRA. John married Angela Pitzer on June 20, 1987, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Amboy.
Survivors include his wife; daughter, Morgan Clayton, and son, Daniel Clayton, both of Mahomet; his mother of Amboy; three brothers, Don (Sheila) Clayton and Scott (Debbie) Clayton, both of Amboy, and Troy (Denise) Clayton of Minooka; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and brother, Justin Clayton.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at Mihm-Jones Funeral Home in Amboy. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Amboy, with the Rev. Timothy Draper, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at St. Patrick Cemetery in Amboy, followed by a meal at St. Patrick parish hall. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Aug. 27 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Mahomet.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
