DEKALB – Loving husband and father, William E. Uphoff, 89, of DeKalb, formerly of Franklin Grove, died Friday, Aug. 19, 2016, at Heritage Woods in DeKalb.
He was born Dec. 29, 1926, in Surprise, Nebraska, the son of Harry and Minnie (Blount) Uphoff. He married Barbara Adams on July 21, 1946, in Burlington. He farmed with his wife for 45 years, and was employed for the village of Franklin Grove as a licensed water treatment operator. He was a member of Lee County Farm Bureau, Franklin Grove Lions, and Reynolds United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Barbara; children, Diana Uphoff, Kristine (Dominic) Marchiando, Lori (Russell) Vowles, Jody (William) Kalp, and Edward (Kathy) Uphoff; grandchildren, Robert (Carrie) McFalls, Shelly (Josh) Fisher, Jennifer (Adam Chasen) Ullrich-Eveslage, Nicole (Timothy) Larsen, Nicholas (Kami) Vowles, Benjamin (Mitzie Krieger) Vowles, Kathryn (Ryan) Levack, Michael (Vanessa Ventura) Milano, Emily (Josh) Milano Kerr, Molly Uphoff, and Joe Uphoff; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, William H. Uphoff; brothers, Edward and Robert Uphoff; and sisters, Margaret Way, Evelyn Crull, and Shirley Upstone.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11:15 a.m. Saturday, and the memorial service at 11:15 a.m. Saturday at Reynolds United Methodist Church in Ashton, with the Rev. Seamus Enright officiating. Mihm-Jones Funeral Home in Amboy is handling arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to Kish Health System Hospice in DeKalb and Reynolds United Methodist Church in Ashton.
