A new and improved Northview Park is on target for its projected grand reopening this fall.

The reopening is tentatively planned for mid-October, depending on weather and construction schedules, according to Carrie Dellamano, director of Communications, Sales and Development for the Lemont Park District.

Renovations will include additional walking paths, increased onsite parking, a picnic shelter, and a new playground with a zip line and rubber play surface in sections of the play area. The renovation also will have a spray pad water feature, drinking fountain and a flush bathroom facility. The ballfield will be updated, and the basketball court will be relocated. Also, look for enhanced landscaping throughout the park.

Currently, the new play structure has been delivered, and work is being done on the new baseball field and dugouts this week, Dellamano said.

“In the upcoming weeks the footing and the pads for the new shelter will be installed,” Dellamano said. “Next, work will start for the parking lot, basketball courts and extended walking path. During the final phases of the project, trees will be planted followed by seeding and landscaping.”

Early in the planning process last year, the park district conducted community surveys. As a result, Louise Egofske, Executive Director of the Lemont Park District, said, “We are adding several new amenities to the treasured Northview Park. One of these new, exciting features is a fun aquatics element – a seasonal splash pad that will be free to the community. Additionally, an extended walking path will span the circumference of the grounds.”

“Staff has been in touch with some of the original neighbors of the park and are continuously learning about the area’s rich history and all the exciting things that took place at this site,” Dellamano added.
