James Wolf

STERLING – James Turney Wolf, 83, of Sterling, died Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016, at home.

James was born Aug. 10, 1933, in Rock Falls, the son of Cecil and Dorothy (Turney) Wolf. He was a 1951 graduate of Rock Falls High School. He married Ruth Wescott on Sept. 28, 1952, in Rock Falls. James was employed by Frantz Manufacturing Co. for 42 years, retiring in 1995 as the assistant chief engineer. He enjoyed traveling the country back roads and watching the barges on the river. He coached baseball for 20 years. He loved camping and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. He was an active member of First Congregational Church in Rock Falls.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth, of nearly 64 years; four children, Steve (Susan) Wolf of Mendota, Kathleen Wolf of Rock Falls, Greg (Paula Garcia) Wolf of Rock Falls, and Raymond Wolf of Sterling; two brothers, Robert (Donena) Wolf of Arizona and Raymond Wolf of Oklahoma; sister-in-law, Charlotte Wolf of Minnesota; eight grandchildren, Sarah (Shad) Hansen, Sam (Laura) Wolf, Sadie (Leona) Wolf, Jennifer (Gary) Wolf, Selena (Jason) Mattingly, Tyler Wolf, Isaac Rolle, and Aaron Rolle; eight great-grandchildren, Colby, Connor, and Caiden Hanson, Jason and Zachary Hall, and Jackson, Caleb, and Draven Mattingly; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Donald Wolf.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Congregational Church in Rock Falls, with the Rev. Al Campbell, pastor, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First Congregational Church in Rock Falls.
