Jessie Miniel

STERLING – Jessie Miniel, 85, of Sterling, died Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling.

She was born Oct. 10, 1930, in Alexandria, Louisiana, to Manuel and Concecion (Martinez) Zalasar. She married Manuel Miniel on April 29, 1949, in Morrison. He died March 27, 2000. Jessie had worked for 10 years at Lawrence Brothers in Sterling. She was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church.

Survivors include sons Guadalupe (Rosalinda) Miniel Sr. of Rock Falls, James Miniel (Debra Penaflor, also a special caregiver) of Sterling, and John P. Miniel of Sterling; daughters Sookie (Donald) LeBlanc of Dixon, Mary Jane Serratos of Sterling and Margaret Miniel of Jackson, Florida; special caregiver and granddaughter Jehovia Miniel; brother Jose (Ofelia) Zalasar of Rock Falls; sisters Alice (Clyde) Tipton of Tennessee, Gloria Hernandez of Dixon, Josephine Hernandez of Rock Falls and Mary (David) Ortiz of Sterling; 17 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a special friend and caregiver, Janet Chavez.

She was preceded in death by her husband; son Peter Miniel; sister Carmen Cantu; brothers Crispin Hernandez and LeRoy “Mouse” Hernandez; and a granddaughter.

Visitation begins at
10 a.m. and Mass of Christian Burial at
11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Rock Falls, with the Rev. Richard Russo, pastor and celebrant, officiating. Private burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
