DOVER — Gerald "Jerry" Francis Moynihan, 78, of Dover passed away Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2016, in the care of OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria due to complications from lung cancer.
Jerry was born May 12, 1938, to Jeremiah and Regina Moynihan in Chicago. He leaves his wife, Susan Nancy Zeihen, who he was married to for 58 years, along with his children, Craig (Debbie) Moynihan of Naperville, Sean (Patti) Moynihan of Princeton and Meghan (Mick) Southerland of College Station, Texas; eight grandchildren, Joshua Gilsdorf, Daniel, Brian, Matthew and Michelle Moynihan, and Jett, Ava and Wilder Southerland; and two sisters, Linda (Dave) Rutman and Jeanne (Don) Piche of Traverse City, Mich.
He was preceded in death by his son, Charles "Chuck" (Tonia) Moynihan, in 2009, who died at the age of 44.
Jerry graduated from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wis., and was a midshipman in the ROTC program at Marquette. He and Susan travelled extensively, went into advertising and retired.
He was very proud of his Irish heritage and was often found in pubs listening to Irish music, "Up The Rebels!"
A private service was held at his son's home in Princeton for family members.

Proceeds from the memorial fund will be used to cover funeral expenses, support the Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis and the American Cancer Society.
