The Oswego Bears Pop Warner football and cheer teams completed their third week of the youth tackle season:
Tiny Mites vs Joliet Steelers
Oswego Bears Tiny Mite team improves their record to 3-0 after a win against the Algonquin Argonauts. The Tiny Mite defense led by Cameron Logan, Ben Gibson, Kenny Robertson, Joey Dungan, and Alex Wiggins shut out the Argonaut offense. That offense was no match for Luke Hernandez, who late in the game broke through their line, stripped the ball and ran it 50 yards for a touchdown. Aidan Cullen, Carson Fell, Jonah Zukauskas and Zachary Gilson led the offense, racking up several yards throughout the game.
Mitey Mite vs Stickney Wolfpack
The Oswego Bears Mitey Mite Orange team improved to 3-0 on the season after a 19-0 win over Algonquin Argonauts. The Bears set the tone with solid defensive line play anchored by defensive ends Brendan Bisgrove and Matt Zukauskas and strong safety Jake Krahula. The entire defense exhibited solid tackling which limited Algonquin to two first downs in the game. On offense, Damian Lewandowski, Brogan Mello, Dominic Battista and Nolan Robertson all contributed to the powerful running game. Several times Algonquin thought they had the Bears offensive figured out, but they had no answer for quarterback Brayden Swanson who found the end zone three times.
Mitey Mite vs Rockford Titans
Oswego Bears Mitey Mite White team struck first against the Genoa Cogs with a touchdown by Matthew Odefey. The Cogs answered and a defensive battle was born. On the last play of the game, the Bears Caleb Yanos broke out for the game winning touchdown. The final score was 13-12. This wouldn't have been possible without great teamwork on both sides of the ball. Defense had outstanding tackling by Cody Parker, Preston Rowley and Christian Rodts. Drew Mulacek also provided excellent pass coverage all day.
Jr PeeWee vs Stickney Wolfpack
Oswego Bears Junior Pee Wee defeated the Algonquin Argonauts White 26-0. Jackson Gillen opened the game with a 65-yard touchdown on the first play of the game (his first of two on the day). Tough running all day by Colin Brown, Tyler Bibbs and David Drendel. Aiden Moriarty had a fumble recovery that led to Chase Gerwig scoring his first of two touchdowns. Zac Clarke provided a kick extra point. For the third week, the defense shut down the opponent. The defensive line of Hunter Smith, Jackson Gillen, Isaiah Logan, Aiden Moriarty, Chris DiCosola, Nick Tickle, Zac Clarke and Tyler Knizner bottled up the inside running lanes all day.
PeeWee vs Stickney Wolfpack
The PeeWee team played a very talented Algonquin team on Saturday coming up short with a 32-6 loss. Defensively, Ronan Cornelius had a great interception and Caleb Adams had a timely backfield tackle. Offensively, the line of Connor Mannis, Jacob Quigley, Christian Zukauskas, Ardi Qitaku, Colin Rowe, Matt Gandy and Trey Hernandez were able to drive the ball down the field resulting in Darren Oregon scoring off a pass from quarterback Logan Stabb.
Jr Varsity vs Stickney Wolfpack
It was a tough day for the Junior Varsity Bears with a 29-0 loss. There were many positive plays on the day including a Hunter Gibson pass for 29 yards to Ty Carlson. The Bears defense of Dylan Scott, Cole Hansen, Kevin Jurkovic, Jordan Logan and Jacob Plohr never quit, allowing only a single touchdown in the second half of the game.
