An Oswego man has been sentenced to state prison on a drug dealing charge, according to the Kendall County State's Attorney's Office.
State's Attorney Eric Weis said Jose G. Guerra, 47, of the 100 block of North Adams Street in Oswego, was sentenced to six and a half years in state prison by Judge Tim McCann for unlawful possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver.
The charges stemmed from an investigation by the Kendall County Cooperative Police Assistance Team, or CPAT, according to Weis.
Weis said Guerra sold cocaine to undercover officers, and based on those cocaine sales, a search warrant was executed on Guerra's home in March. Based on the evidence collected at the residence, Guerra was charged with intending to distribute cocaine.
“Hopefully seeing drug dealers consistently going to prison from Kendall County will dissuade that small percentage of individuals who choose to make their living by illegal means," Weis said.
Following his prison sentence, Guerra will serve three years of mandatory supervised release.
Assistant State's Attorney Frank Gorup prosecuted the case, and Guerra was represented by attorney John Paul Ivec, according to Weis.
