Dr. Gregg Davis receives ‘Physician of Excellence’ award

PRINCETON – Dr. Gregg Davis of Princeton was recently selected to receive the Illinois Rural Health Association’s 2016 “Physician of Excellence” Award. Nominated by ICAHN (Illinois Critical Access Hospital Network) in collaboration with the Bureau/Marshall/Putnam County Health Department and Perry Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Davis will be honored at an open house on Wednesday, Oct. 12, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Perry Memorial Hospital, 530 Park Ave. East, Princeton. Guests are asked to convene in the medical office building lobby.

In addition to having his own practice, Dr. Davis also serves as the chief medical officer for the Illinois Rural Community Care Organization (IRCCO), a newly-formed Accountable Care Organization established and managed by ICAHN. IRCCO is a collaborative of committed rural hospitals, including 21 Illinois critical access hospitals, clinics, physicians, and other providers who recognize certain health care and social services are best delivered and supported at the local level, and that innovation and sharing of resources, as well as talent, will guide providers to build clinically integrated systems of care, placing special effort to ensure that the patient is the center of all services. Perry Memorial Hospital is a member of the collaborative.

“Having excellent clinical skills and business and management acumen, we pursued Dr. Davis as we felt he had the necessary ingenuity and vision to lead medical providers to change and to also be part of something that made a profound difference in the lives of patients residing in Illinois,” said Pat Schou, ICAHN executive director. “Dr. Davis was also deemed an obvious fit for the position of IRCCO Chief Medical Officer as he understood both the dynamics of rural populations and the critical importance of having a successful new health delivery model for preserving rural health locally.

“Thanks to Dr. Davis’ service as our chief medical officer, IRCCO continues to be the catalyst for a better rural health care system, a coordinated care system which ultimately fulfills the most important goal any physician hopes to achieve for his patients – longer and healthier lives,” Schou added.

Specializing in family medicine, Dr. Davis has been practicing from his 204 Park Ave. East, Princeton office since 2000. He has served as the chief executive officer and president of Perry Memorial Hospital; the board of directors of the Bureau County Health Department; the board of directors of Perry Memorial Hospital; the board of directors of Amcore Bank, North Central; chairman of the Physician Hospital Organization of Perry Memorial Hospital; member of the Loan Committee of AMCORE Bank; medical director of Prairie View Nursing Home, Basswood Nursing Home, and Colonial Hall Nursing Home, all of Princeton; the board of directors of Bureau Valley Hospice; board of directors of the IRCCO; and as chief medical officer of the IRCCO since 2014.

He is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians; the Illinois Academy of Family Physicians; Medical Society of Bureau County; the American Association for Physician Leadership; and the Southern Illinois Medical Association.

“Dr. Davis’ commitment not only to his patients but to the Illinois Rural Community Care Organization is highly commendable and greatly appreciated,” said Margaret Vaughn, IRHA executive director. “We are proud to bestow Dr. Davis with this honor and invite all his patients, family and friends to help him celebrate this achievement.”
