Donald R. Mini

SUBLETTE – Donald R. Mini, 74, of Sublette, died Thursday, Oct. 27, 2016, at his home, surrounded by his family.

He was born July 17, 1942, in Dalzell, the son of Rootle and Lena (Arrigo) Mini. He was a mail carrier for FedEx for 20 years, before retiring in 2011. He also was a volunteer E.M.T. for Sublette Fire Dept for 38 years. Don was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Sublette. He was a veteran of the Army, serving during the Vietnam War, and most recently went on the Honor Flight out of Moline, with Jerry Beranek honored to be his guardian.

Don married Marge Nowinski in 1969, who preceded him in death in 1998. He then married Rosalie Miller.

Survivors include his wife, Rosalie of Sublette; one brother, John (Tina) Mini of Sublette;  three stepchildren, Deborah (Raymond) Hesser of Tampico, Raymond (Janelle Schmitt) Sharp of Rock Falls, and Victoria (Steven) Hersom of Navarre, Florida; 11 stepgrandchildren, Rosetta Inman, Roy (Julie) Inman, Troy Inman, Nicole (Joshua) Pitts, Vanessa Sharp, A.J. Sharp, Aubree Schmitt, Kyle Schmitt, Chandler Hersom, Veronica Hersom, and Sydney Hersom; 14 step-great-grandchildren, Samantha (Thomas) Hesser, Angela Seyller, Zachary Heckman, Jonathon Hicks, Kelly Hicks Jr., Donovan Meeks, Nevaeh Harris, Camryn Inman, Alexis Inman, Makayla Inman, Anastasiya Inman, Angelina Pitts, Drew Pitts, and Emma Pitts; one step-great-great-granddaughter, Lilith Hesser; one brother-in-law, Howard (Pat) Batten of Tampico; and five sisters-in-law, Mary Kuepker of Flanagan, Rose Batten of Tampico, Mary Ann Batten of Sterling, Rita (Jerry) Beranek of Rock Falls, and Joyce (Ron Hilton) Sandrock of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marge; one son, Kenneth J. Mini; one daughter, Karen Mini; and one sister, Rose Uselmann.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, with the rosary recited at 3:30 p.m. Friday, at Mihm-Jones Funeral Home in Amboy. Visitation also will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Sublette, with the Rev. Randy Fronek officiating. Military honors will be accorded afterward by the Amboy American Legion. Cremation rites will follow, with burial of cremains at a later date at Arsenal Cemetery in Rock Island.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
