Only a few months ago, David Olsen and Greg Hosé both served on the Downers Grove Village Council – the former a notable young Republican named to fill a vacancy on the College of DuPage Board of Trustees and latter running against an established state representative.
Now, Rep. Olsen sits atop the final standings of the same state representative race he wasn't a part of through most of July of this year.
Olsen defeated Hosé by ore than 3,200 votes, according to unofficial results from the DuPage County Election Commission, receiving just over 53 percent of the vote.
The 28-year-old Republican was placed on the ballot after Rep. Ron Sandack stepped down after being the alleged victim of a crime ring in the Philippines focused on luring high-profile individuals into inappropriate online conversations for extortion.
Olsen was not immediately available for comment, but Hosé offered his congratulations to his former colleague.
"It was a long and tough campaign," he said. "We worked incredibly hard. I'd like to thank everybody who came out to knock a door, put up a sign, make phone calls. I had a great outpouring of support and volunteers, and I'm tremendously grateful for that."
