DeKALB – DeKalb business owner Michael Embrey announced Thursday that he will be filing a petition to run for mayor of DeKalb.
The period for candidates to file nominating petitions to be on the April 4 ballot is Dec. 12 to Dec. 19.
Mayor John Rey has held the office since 2013 and has said he plans to run for re-election.
Embrey is the founder of FunMe Events, a DeKalb-based special events and entertainment company, and he has lived in the city for 40 years. He also is a four-year U.S. Air Force veteran.
He previously worked as show band director and in public relations at Northern Illinois University, where he earned bachelor of music education and master of education degrees.
His experience includes being chairman of the city’s Special Events and Tourism Committee and serving 12 years on the DeKalb Liquor Commission.
