Gertrude 'Trudy' Hedrick

STERLING – Gertrude "Trudy" Hedrick, 97, of Sterling, died Sunday, Dec. 18, 2016, at Good Samaritan Society in Prophetstown.

Trudy was born Jan. 23, 1919, in Harmon, the daughter of Henry and Mable (Hettinger) Geldean. She married Roger Hedrick on June 24, 1939, in Clinton, Iowa. He preceded her in death on July 30, 1992.

She graduated from Hoopole High School and Sterling School of Beauty in Sterling, and worked at General Electric Co. in Morrison, and as a hairdresser for 50 years, retiring in 2006. She also was a homemaker and volunteered at the PADS shelter in Sterling. She was a member of First Church of the Nazarene in Sterling for 62 years. Her hobbies were quilting, sewing, and knitting.

Survivors include two sons, Ronald J. (Patti) Hedrick of Wyanet and John R. (Vicki) Hedrick of Sterling; one daughter, Bonnie (Larry) Phelps of Prophetstown; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and two sisters, Helen Nelson of Walnut and Avis Sutton of Linden.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Jeanine Hedrick; and three brothers, Don, Howard, and Earl Geldean.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday, with the funeral at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at First Church of the Nazarene in Sterling, with Pastor Rodney Phelps officiating. Burial will be at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Rock Falls.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First Church of the Nazarene in Sterling or Good Samaritan Society in Prophetstown.
